How To Solve The Problem Of Machining Accuracy Deviation in Heavy-duty CNC Horizontal Lathes?

In modern manufacturing, heavy-duty CNC horizontal lathes bear the heavy responsibility of machining large and complex parts, and machining accuracy is a key indicator of their performance. Any deviation in accuracy will directly affect product quality and production efficiency. Thoroughly analyzing the root causes of deviations and taking effective solutions is crucial to ensuring the stable operation of the lathe.

Wear and deformation of the mechanical structure are common factors leading to machining accuracy deviations. Under long-term high-load operation, key components of the lathe, such as guideways and lead screw-nut pairs, are prone to wear. Wear on the guideways will disrupt their straightness, causing deviations in the slide movement; wear on the lead screw-nut pairs will lead to increased transmission clearance, affecting positioning accuracy. To address these issues, the straightness of the guideways should be checked regularly using precision instruments such as laser interferometers. If the wear is minor, it can be repaired through high-precision grinding; if the wear is severe, the guideways must be replaced. For the lead screw-nut pairs, their clearance should be checked, and if necessary, the clearance should be adjusted by grinding the nut or adding shims to ensure transmission accuracy. Simultaneously, the machine tool foundation should be checked for settlement; if problems are found, the foundation should be reinforced promptly to prevent a decrease in machining accuracy due to machine tool tilting.

Abnormal CNC system parameters can also cause accuracy deviations. Improper settings of parameters such as position loop gain and speed loop gain can cause machine tool response lag or overshoot. Technicians need to optimize the CNC system parameters using debugging software based on the actual working conditions of the machine tool. For example, when contour errors occur, the position loop gain can be adjusted appropriately to improve the system's tracking accuracy; if the machine tool vibrates significantly during operation, the speed loop gain needs to be adjusted to improve dynamic performance. In addition, the battery level of the CNC system should be checked regularly to prevent parameter loss or malfunction due to insufficient battery voltage.

Tool wear and installation issues are equally important. Tools gradually wear down during prolonged cutting, and the wear of the tool edge changes the shape of the cutting edge, leading to dimensional deviations. Therefore, a tool life management system should be established, and tools that have reached the end of their service life should be replaced promptly. When installing tools, ensure they are securely installed and accurately positioned. Use a tool setter to accurately measure the tool length and radius compensation value to avoid affecting machining accuracy due to tool installation errors.

Inappropriate machining processes are also a contributing factor to accuracy deviations. Improper selection of cutting parameters, such as excessively high cutting speed or feed rate, can increase cutting forces and lead to workpiece deformation. Cutting parameters must be rationally selected based on factors such as workpiece material and tool performance. For example, when machining high-strength alloy steel, the cutting speed and feed rate should be appropriately reduced to decrease cutting forces. Simultaneously, the clamping method should be optimized. For large workpieces, multi-point support and reasonable distribution of clamping force should be used to prevent clamping deformation from affecting machining accuracy.

Solving the machining accuracy deviation problem of heavy-duty CNC horizontal lathes requires a multi-pronged approach, addressing mechanical structure, CNC system, tool management, and machining processes. Only through meticulous investigation and targeted improvements can machining accuracy be effectively improved to meet the demands of modern manufacturing for high-quality parts.
